Moving in the right way

We are sure you are looking forward to moving into your new room at Queen Mary and want to make sure that you are prepared for your arrival and know what to expect.

What will my flat and room be like?

You will be moving into a flat that is occupied and already home to other Queen Mary residents, wherein you may be the only associate student. If things seem quiet at first, don't worry: most students leave campus over the closure period, so you may only have one or two flatmates who have remained in their rooms and will be using the communal facilities. Rest assured, everybody will have been informed of your arrival!

Residential Services is working with the other residents of your Queen Mary accommodation to ensure that the communal areas of your flat are clean and prepared for your arrival. As a new resident you will find an allocated clean and empty kitchen cupboard, for your use, along with an empty shelf within the fridge/freezer (where applicable).

What if my allocated cupboard and fridge/freezer shelf aren't clear?

We have carried out checks to make sure that they are ready for your use, however, if you find someone else’s belongings in your allocated space don't be afraid to speak up. Open communication and teamwork are key to overcoming challenges in shared living, so approach your flatmates for help first. If this doesn't work or if you don't know whose belongings are in your space, please let us know so that we are able to assist you in getting this resolved.

What can I do if I forget to bring something with me?

You will want to ensure that you have everything you need for your stay (check out Eniola's 'What to pack' article for tips) - standard items such as bedding packs and kitchen essentials are available from our online shop for collection if you want to order them before or after arriving.
