This group will be run by members of the Advice and Counselling Service.
Why should I join this group?
Joining a new group can be daunting and anxiety-provoking. However, listening to and sharing lived experiences that might be similar to others can be extremely validating and a reminder that you might not be alone. It is okay to have different experiences and to respect these. Groups also provide valuable insight into how we are perceived and how we relate to others around us.
Why is this group solely for men (and those who identify as men)?
Men are less prone to showing emotion, appearing vulnerable, seeking help and/or appearing needy because it runs counter to traditional views of masculinity. Therefore, this group provides a rare opportunity for men to meet and discuss these issues whilst connecting with each other in a safe and confidential space.
Why a walking group?
- It's a low cost, eco-friendly activity that assists in maintaining physical wellbeing and improving mental health.
- It's low intensity, easily accessible and inclusive
- There isn't a competitive nature
- It improves mood and connection with yourself, others, and nature/
- It mitigates stress, reduces anxiety and rumination.
- It provides a sense of achievement and fulfillment.
Why talk about men's mental health?
Men are more likely to avoid their problems or pretend that they're fine as a means of coping and self-preservation. When they do reach out, it is typically at the point of crisis or hoping a quick fix.
How do I get involved?
The group will meet weekly on Wednesday's from 3-4:30pm outside the Chaplaincy.
