Queen Mary has loads of completely free resources on campus to help you stay on top of things without breaking the bank.
Whether you’re looking to save on lunch, need a laptop in a pinch, or could use a little support now and again, there’s no shame in using what’s available. These services are here for you, so don’t be shy about making the most of them.
Here’s what’s on offer and where to find it:
Free campus facilities
We offer a hearty lineup of complimentary on-campus facilities designed to support your everyday student life:
- Bicycle parking spots across Mile End, Whitechapel, Charterhouse Square, and Lincoln’s Inn Fields. Make sure to safely secure your bike if you plan on using any of the parking/storage options.
- Charging points in libraries, gyms, The Hive, Garrod Building, The Curve, Canalside and more. You’ll never be caught with a dead battery.
- Laptop loan service: Borrow a Dell laptop from the self‑service kiosks in Mile End and Whitechapel libraries.
- Microwave ovens are available to use in the SU Hub, SU Nest, SU Shop (Bancroft Road), QM Social in Library Square, Garrod common room, and at Charterhouse Square in The Shield.
- Showers, water coolers, and free hot water across numerous buildings. Perfect after a workout or to keep you going through a long study session.
Queen Mary Students' Union Food Pantry
If you’re running low on food, then the QMSU's Food Pantry is here to help:
- Mile End: Located in the SU Hub reception (Mon–Fri, 9 am–9 pm)
- Whitechapel: 24/7 access in the Garrod Building
You can take one of each item per visit. It’s designed as short-term support, no questions asked. There’s also a Supermarket Voucher Scheme (£25 voucher available once a year) if you need a bit more help. All you need to do is speak to a Welfare Adviser to get that support.
Free period products
Period products can get pricey, which is why Queen Mary provides free, plastic-free and organic options around campus. You’ll find them in:
- Mile End Library, Francis Bancroft, Maths, Arts One, Graduate Centre
- Garrod Building, The Shield/Dawson Hall, Lincoln’s Inn Fields
- Whitechapel and West Smithfield libraries
They’re compostable, discreetly placed, and we are working on adding reusable options soon.
