Explore the city by paddleboard

How and where to start?

Why not try a new way to explore the city and try paddleboarding? Regent's Canal is a popular, scenic route passing through Regent's Park and London Zoo.

You can either BYOB (bring your own board), hire one, or, if you don't feel comfortable getting straight on a board, you can consult with Paddleboarding London, located in Camden Town.

What about a licence?

Yes, you'll generally need a licence to paddleboard on most waterways in London. And if you've got your own board (or you'd like to hire one) and want to explore Regent's Canal independently, you'll need one too. The use of a paddleboard, or any other portable, unpowered craft on waterways requires one. On Regent's Canal, there are two licence options:

  1. A short-term, or 30-day, explorer's licence from the Canal and River Trust
  2. If you paddle regularly, instead of getting individual waterways licences, it's worth getting an annual British Canoeing membership, which includes a licence to paddle on over 4,500km of canals and rivers.

Paddleboarding London - How do I get there?

From Queen Mary (Mile End), the quickest route is via the London Underground, taking around 30-40 minutes. Take the Central Line from Mile End to Tottenham Court Road, then change to the Northern Line northbound to Camden Town. It's a 10-minute walk from Camden Station.

Location: The Pirate Castle, Gilbey's Wharf, Oval Road, Camden, NW1 7EA

How much are tickets?

Sessions are usually 1.5 hours and cost £60 for a single ticket, but if you and your mates want to go together, Paddleboarding London offers group tickets for up to 3 for £165 (£55 each). You can book the 'Lesson & Tour' session, which is inclusive for all levels, so if you've never been on a paddleboard before, this is perfect.

Make sure you wear weather-appropriate clothing!
