Important Information on Smoking and Vaping on Campus

By QMResLifeSimon 09 Aug 2023

It is important for all residents to be aware that smoking is prohibited on all Queen Mary Campuses. Smoking is only permitted in the designated smoking shelters.

Smoking shelters can be found in the following locations.

Mile End

  • Maurice Court next to the carpark
  • Next to the Joseph Priestly Building
  • Library Square

Whitechapel & Charterhouse Square

  • Smoking needs to take place away from the campus.

Prohibited items include but are not limited to cigarettes, e-cigarettes, HEET cigarettes, vapes and the use or storage of shisha pipes. When you accept your Licence Agreement to reside in Halls, you agree to adhere to this.

Any incidents where you are found smoking or allowing your guest/s to smoke in Halls will be dealt with under the Residences Disciplinary Procedure. All information on this is in the Residents’ Handbook which all residents should read and be familiar with.

It is important to note that vaping will be treated as the same as smoking – it is prohibited in Halls and will result in disciplinary action.

Smoking in Halls can also lead to hefty charges if fixtures and fittings in rooms are impacted by smoke damage or lingering smell.

For information on help to quit smoking, visit the Quit Right Tower Hamlets website, who are partnered with Queen Mary University of London.
