London's East End is full of fun, relaxing and educational activities that won't break the bank. Home to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, particularly the new cultural quarter in Stratford, there's plenty of entertainment venues, sports facilities and eateries to enjoy no matter your budget.
Here are some of our favourites to add to your London bucket list.
V&A East Museum and Storehouse 🗿
The new V&A Storehouse is now open! Have behind the scenes access to the V&A collections and archives – for free with no need to book. Here you can explore over half a million creative works from historic objects to modern curiosities.
The main V&A East Museum won't be opening until Spring 2026, which will also be completely free, featuring two galleries, a major exhibition space and more. So watch this space.
Sadler's Wells Theatre ðŸŽ
If you're a lover of dance, Sadler's Wells is the place to go. Witness dance from every angle at the new Stratford theatre with a 550-seat auditorium, six studios and a public performance space hosting free dance classes, pop-ups and workshops.
The line-up is a mixture of free showcases, or most ticketed events starting from £15 per ticket. So from hip hop to ballet, you should be able to find performances on throughout the year that fit your style and budget – see what's on.
BBC Music Studios 🎤
Right next door to Sadler's Wells is the newly relocated BBC Music Studios, home of the iconic BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus.
Look out for future live performances, covering all genres from the biggest global artists to emerging talent.
Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park 🌳
Taking a walk around the park doesn't cost a thing so why not take in the 560 acres of free-to-explore greenery? On those sunny days, spread our a picnic in the London Blossom Garden or along the River Lea for a scenic lunch with friends.
If you're looking for something a little more active and fun, you can even rent swan pedalos on the canal for around £9 per person.
East London is the ideal student playground full of free culture, green spaces and budget eats, all packed around exciting new venues.
Have fun, explore often, and make the most of what budget activities your uni city has to offer!
