Our new look for ResLife captures the distinctive energy, character and diversity of your student life at Queen Mary University of London. You fed back you didn't want the communications you receive to feel corporate, you wanted to feel a connection to Queen Mary, and the local area represented within them.
So, at the heart of our new look, is a bold, dynamic shape inspired by an abstract crack – an opening that reveals life beneath the surface. Within it, layered imagery draws together moments of student life, recognisable features of Queen Mary's campuses, and the colours, textures and details of east London.
The idea celebrates a place that isn’t polished or uniform, but vibrant, characterful and full of unexpected contrasts: qualities that give east London its energy and make living and studying at Queen Mary such a unique experience.
Some of the ways our new look has been applied across a range of things you see
Typography adds another layer of local character, pairing Queen Mary’s brand typeface with Clarendon, which always appears within the crack.
First created in 1845 at the Fann Street Foundry near the Barbican, Clarendon brings a subtle connection to Victorian London and the typographic heritage of the city’s East End.
Together, these elements create a flexible and expressive identity that can bring the wide range of events, activities and experiences offered across Queen Mary’s halls of residence through ResLife, to life.
