Balancing paying rent and bills with enjoying the city of London and socialising with your flatmates can be hard. But luckily for you, being a student comes with many discounts, and London is full of great deals!
Here are the best student discounts you can get your hands on in East London.
Your Student ID 🪪
In most places, having an official student ID is required to claim student discounts. This ID will be your best friend when exploring the city and grabbing a drink with friends. It will also grant you great deals at local shops and city activities.
Some places also allow UNiDAYS and Student Beans IDs, but it's still worth taking your official university student ID to places just in case.
Food & Drink 🍸
Speaking of UNiDAYS and Student Beans, they have brilliant discounts on local restaurants, bars and coffee shops. If you're planning to go for a meal with your flatmates or you're planning a solo coffee morning, check the apps to see what deals are on offer.
Places like PizzaExpress offer a 25% student discount on food and drink (Sunday to Friday), and Bills have 20% off your total bill (Sunday to Friday).
Coffee shops like Black Sheep Coffee offer selected hot/iced drinks for £2 every Friday!
Transport 🚆
There are many ways you can save money around London, and travelling is one of them.
Whether you're travelling to and from campus or exploring the city, you can save 30% on transport tickets if you study full-time at Queen Mary.
If you're exploring somewhere beyond London or travelling home to see family, you can pair a 16-25 Railcard with a standard Oyster card to get 1/3 off off-peak pay-as-you-go Tube and train fares.
Culture 🎭
Many theatres in East London offer student prices and discounts to make your night as easy as possible:
- Stratford East: Offers £15 tickets (must be aged between 17 and 25).
- Arcola Theatre: Pay What You Can Tuesdays & student prices.
- Genesis Cinema: Offers a free student membership unlocking £5 daily entry, 10% off food and drink and £1 off tickets on Mondays and Wednesdays.
A little research goes a long way! Take advantage of these discounts to start saving more and spending less 💰
