Is social media a necessity for university life?

Posted 1 day ago

We love it, we hate it, but do we even need it?

For most people, social media is a staple of modern life. One simple Google search will pull up hundreds of studies on the way we use it and the way it impacts us, and the results aren't always what we want to hear.

But what role can social media play when starting university? Is it useful for making friends and finding romance at Queen Mary?

Deema and Shamma discussed exactly that on the ResLife podcast, and you can hear their thoughts above. But the most important thing to remember is that there is no one 'correct' way to make friends at university, and social media isn't for everyone.

If you find that Instagram has a negative impact on your life, it's totally okay to delete it! You will still find plenty of opportunities to meet new people and make new friends in a way that is safe and healthy for you.
