Staying in London over the summer? Well, here's how you can celebrate the sun coming out like a proper Brit.
1. Park & Canal Hangouts
As soon as that sun peeps through, you'll see many people heading for the park or a green space on campus to soak up the warm weather.
☀️ The Mile End Park Sunbathe: Step right off the Mile End campus into Mile End Park. There's plenty of grassy spots next to Regent's Canal where you can unwind with a meal deal and chill with your mates.
☀️ The Victoria Park Picnic: Walk 10 minutes up Grove Road to reach Victoria Park. You can rent a pedal boat on the boating lake, check out the Chinese Pagoda, or head over on a Sunday for the massive street food market.
☀️ Canal Walks to Hackney Wick: Walk or cycle along the towpath past Victoria Park straight into Hackney Wick. It's full of graffiti, outdoor canal cafés, and great student vibes.
2. Coastal Escapes
When London gets too hot, hop on a train for a classic British beach day.
🌊 Southend-on-Sea: Catch the train from nearby Fenchurch Street or West Ham. You can walk down the world's longest pleasure pier and get yourself some tasty fish and chips!
🌊 Brighton: Take the tube to London Bridge or Victoria and grab a direct train to Brighton to explore the pebble beach, the pier, and the vintage shops in The Lanes.
3. Local Pubs
It's like some unspoken rule in Britain that whenever the sun comes out, it's time to head to the pub, even if you just want a soft drink.
🍺 The Victoria (Mile End): Located just up Grove Road, The Victoria has an excellent, hidden back garden, perfect for sunny afternoons.
🍺 The Coborn: A classic locals' favourite on Coborn Road featuring a great south-facing garden terrace. Sounds like a perfect spot for a Pimms!
🍺 People's Park Tavern: Perched right on the end of Victoria Park, this pub boasts one of the largest and most famous beer gardens in East London.
4. Campus Perks

🏛️ Explore QMUL's Hidden History: Take a peaceful, shady summer walk through the Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park located right behind Mile End station. It's a stunning nature reserve hidden in the city.
