Are you new to London and looking to explore some of the city's coolest areas? Fancy a walk in the park with friends or a leisurely stroll through the market? Have a look at the reels below and let the Residential Assistants take you from campus into the city.
1. Hampstead Heath
Does it taste like strawberries on these winter evenings? Not quite, but that doesn't mean Harry Styles won't be hanging about in the heath. Known for one of the best viewpoints of central London, Hampstead Heath is a gorgeous park of woodlands and meadows, home to Kenwood House (featured in the 1999 rom-com Notting Hill) and the swimming ponds. The heath even inspired C.S. Lewis to write The Chronicles of Narnia! And yes, there are plenty of celebrities living in the area, so if you're lucky you might spot Harry Styles or Helena Bonham Carter on your walk.
2. Regent's Park
Hear ye, hear ye! By his majesty's decree, Regent's Park is one of eight Royal Parks in London- and it's free to visit! This park is especially known for Primrose Hill and its views over London and the Queen Mary Gardens (not that Queen Mary). In spring, 12000 blossomed roses adorn the Gardens Sylvia Plath once called 'wonderland'. Whether you're just looking to have a relaxing afternoon walk, hike up the hill, or have a coffee by the boating lake, Regent's Park is a great destination all year round.
3. Borough Market
Just beyond London Bridge, on the south side of the Thames, lies an inconspicuous little market unbeknownst to any of its passers-by. Or so it once was, before it became one of the most popular and bustling food markets of London! Don't be deterred by the crowds though, the market is covered, spacious and a pleasure to walk through. Whether you're looking for the city's best Indian street food or spiciest Mexican tacos, you can probably find it here. Additionally, if you're looking for a niche ingredient for your upcoming kitchen escapades, you might find it at one of the Borough traders! You can always check out the website before taking the short trip over.
Happy exploring!
