Sweat off your stress

How exercise can help you survive exams

When deadlines pile up and revision starts melting your brain, it’s tempting to glue yourself to your desk and power through. But sometimes, the best thing you can do for your study session… is walk away from it (literally).

Exercise might feel like one more thing on the to-do list during exam season, but hear us out. Moving your body, even a little, is one of the easiest, most effective ways to clear your head, reduce anxiety, and improve focus.

Why exercise helps during exams

It’s not just about fitness. Physical activity does wonders for your brain:

  • Boosts memory and focus (Great for actually remembering what you revised)
  • Reduces stress and anxiety (Endorphins, your natural stress-relievers)
  • Improves sleep (Which means better concentration and mood)
  • Gives you a much-needed break from screens

You don’t need to train for a marathon or hit the gym for hours. Just 20–30 minutes of movement can help reset your mindset and give you that post-workout glow, even if it's a bit sweaty.

Easy ways to get moving on campus

  • Take a walk around Regent’s Canal or Mile End Park
  • Do a YouTube workout or yoga video between revision sessions
  • Put on a playlist and dance around your room, we don't judge
  • Take the stairs, stretch between lectures, or go for a cycle
  • Or better yet…

Join our Run Club

Whether you’re a total beginner or someone who owns actual running shoes, our ResLife Run Club is a relaxed, friendly way to stay active and meet other students who want to move their bodies and boost their mood.

  • Regular group runs every Sunday (till May 4th)
  • Great way to meet new people during a stressful time
  • Runs take place at Victoria Park
  • No pressure – just show up and run (or walk) at your own pace

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in a revision rut, or just a bit meh... grab your trainers, head outside, and sweat off your stress. You might be surprised how good it feels.
